RL..stuff happened. Some drama, some just stuff. I've done a lot of rearranging of my life, and gotten on a new track, and just generally am feeling healthier now than I have in a long time.

That said, this journal is friendslocked from here on out. I've done a massive purge of people I don't remember/talk to/etc. If you feel you were removed unjustly, or want to be added/readded, please comment here~. Also if for some reason you just want to be removed, I will do so with no hard feelings.

For those who came here for fic, feel free to look through the archives. My fic from here on out will be posted instead at the journal viridian_tales so that you don't have to feel like you're missing out on anything.
I've never had Mormons come to the door before. When a pair of them came knocking today, I was caught flat-footed, and hadn't prepared any ways of messing with them. So I'm asking for help here: when Mormons come to the door, how do you suggest I screw with their heads? If they're too pushy, I'll try to convert them, but that's a little mean, and I don't want to do that if they're just friendly like these ones were.

Also, a livejournal truism: No one cares how off-topic your comment was, if it was in praise of their icon.

Icon meme! From cruxis

Comment, and I'll pick seven of your icons for you to explain.

This is my 'hyper' icon, used to let people know that they shouldn't take me too seriously. The character in it is Cho Hakkai from Saiyuki, who's known for smiling like that all the time. This icon is particularly amusing to me because anyone who knows the character well will probably remember that it's practically impossible for Hakkai to get drunk.

My 'loneliness' icon, Yuan with a Botta plushie. I like it for three reasons: one, I love the pairing; two, Yuan is really really pretty with his hair down; and three, I want a Botta plushie soooo much.

My 'religious discussions' icon, also used when I'm spreading the Discordian doctrine (confusion). My religion of choice is Discordianism, in which laughter and confusion are worship of our Goddess, Eris. Sacred symbols include fives, golden apples, and hot dogs on a Friday. Nothing is sacred. A Discordian is prohibited of believing what he or she reads. (fnord) For more information and less enlightenment: http://www.principiadiscordia.com Join the madness, we're saner here!

During the first year of the Renegades' existence, on Prank Day (Symphonian equivalent of April Fools' Day), a very brave and foolish young man took it upon himself to decorate Yuan while he was sleeping. (No, I haven't figured out how he was caught sleeping, shut up, I wrote it when I was just getting started, and anyway it's humor, I don't have to explain.) Anyway, Yuan was less than thrilled at discovering it when he awoke, and even less so when said young Renegade took a picture.

Another icon that practically shouts, 'Don't take this too seriously!'. *shrugs* It's Mr. Sulu from Star Trek, with his shirt off. Used when I want to post a comment more to show that I was there than to contribute anything; very useful for 'me, too'-ing on fandomsecrets and ffrants.

A quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (or one of the books of that series, I can't remember). Because in a crazy world, sometimes going mad is your best option for sanity's sake.

A bunch of liberal political slogans in button form. I never actually use it, but I rather like having it anyway, to show whose side I'm on if nothing else (in case there was ever any real doubt).

Slashable meme

First, the meme (warnings for slash and possible r-rated content under the cut):

1: Kratos Aurion (Symphonia)
2: Kurogane (Tsubasa)
3: James Wilson (House)
4: Zelos Wilder (Symphonia)
5: Cho Hakkai (Saiyuki)
6: Kudoh Yohji (Weiss)
7: Urahara Kisuke (Bleach)
8: Yuan (Symphonia)
9: Sha Gojyo (Saiyuki)
10: Fujimiya Ran (Weiss)
11: Dio Elaclaire (Last Exile)
12: Seto Kaiba (Yu-gi-oh)

Does 10 (Ran) strike you as a voyeur and/or an exhibitionist?
Ran? No way. The guy's an icicle. *Maybe* a voyeur, certainly not an exhibitionist.

Who in all the multiverse would 11 (Dio) most likely bottom to?
Lucciola; he'd be the pushiest bottom ever, though.

Would you rather do 3 (Wilson) or 5 (Hakkai)?
Oh, god, why are you making me choose? askjfealkd; probably Wilson.

Which of 4 (Zelos) and 1 (Kratos) would you rather have do you?
Aaaaugh! That's even worse! Can't I have them both? ...*sigh* Kratos.

12 (Kaiba) and 2 (Kurogane) are having sex in an airplane. Construct a snippet of dialogue that happens during this encounter.
"This is so fucking weird."
"What, you've never wanted to join the mile-high club?"
"We're a mile high?! Let me off!"

How much would you pay to see naked pictures of 11 (Dio)? Have you? Where can the rest of us find these pictures?
Mm, not my favorite, but some can be found for free on yaoi.y-gallery.net, I believe.

Where are 5 (Hakkai) and 9 (Gojyo) most likely to have sex? Who on your list is most likely to write a trashy novel about it?
In Jeep's backseat, or in whatever trashy hotel the group is staying the night in...and Urahara is the only one I can think would write a trashy novel.

When 12 (Kaiba) masturbates, he or she thinks about...
*snicker* Dragons, probably.

What is 11's (Dio's) favorite sex toy?
His servant Lucciola.

Come up with a title for a 12/7/1 (Kaiba/Urahara/Kratos) threeway. Would you read it? Would you write it? What would some of the warnings be?
*brain broken, try again later*

According to Insaneiac, the title should be "Screw the angel, we have money". I would probably read it, if only for the wtf, but I couldn't write it. Warnings: yaoi, PWP, threesome, OOC

Who's more likely to be tied up during consensual sex, 2 (Kurogane) or 6 (Yohji)?
Oh, Yohji, definitely. He'll try anything once, and I can't see Kurogane being willing to give up control like that.

If 11 (Dio) and 3 (Wilson) are carrying on a torrid and forbidden love affair, who's most likely to spill the beans? What would the other person do to retaliate?
Dio will totally let this slip unthinkingly, and Wilson will give him the cold shoulder until one of them breaks down and apologizes.

As a birthday present, 7's (Urahara's) longtime lover 5 (Hakkai) offers to do whatever 7 (Urahara) wants in bed. What's 7's (Urahara's) secret birthday wish?
Taking off Hakkai's limiters, and/or inviting Hakuryu to join in.

Choose a food item for 4 (Zelos) and 12 (Kaiba) to use together.
I can see Zelos sitting around and eating strawberries in a manner that's positively obscene, until Kaiba drags him off somewhere with the bowl of strawberries. <3

8 (Yuan) and 4 (Zelos) are in a fulltime relationship. Who's the top?
Yuan. Next!

Which fetish is 9 (Gojyo) least likely to indulge?
Anything involving blood, probably.

What would you do if you had 8 (Yuan) naked, willing, and ready in your bed? What would 5 (Hakkai) do if he/she had 8 (Yuan) naked, willing and ready in his/her bed?
To be perfectly honest, if Yuan showed up in my bed, I'd probably faint. Hakkai, though...now there's a battle of wills I'd pay good money to see. I think Hakkai would end up in charge of the situation, but Yuan's unpredictable anyway.

What wouldn't 10 (Ran) and 4 (Zelos) tell their friends about their sex life, assuming they had both a mutual sex life and some friends?
Ran wouldn't tell his friends he had a sex life. Zelos would go on and on about his pretty, feisty redhead and conveniently forget to mention that said redhead was male.

10 (Ran) gets a tattoo to declare his/her eternal love for 9 (Gojyo). Where is it? What does it say?
On the back of his shoulderblade; Crimson Love

Imagine that 2 (Kurogane) writes an erotic 11/6 (Dio/Yohji) fic. What sort of summary might the fic he/she writes have?
Goddammit, I don't even know why I wrote this. Look, it's these two guys, read it if you like that sort of thing, otherwise stay the hell away, 'cause I don't feel like answering a bunch of flames.

If 2 (Kurogane) walked into the room wearing nothing but a red thong and a feather boa, how would 8 (Yuan) react?
He'd probably assume it was one of his subordinates taking a dare, and assign him some random punishment duty or just send him out, depending on his mood.

And the obligatory fill in the blanks erotic fairy tale! Change the numbers with the matching names on your list.:

Gojyo and Kratos are having a quickie in a broom closet when Yuan walks in on them. Naturally enough, Yuan joins in, first paging Wilson, who's in the middle of fucking Hakkai into the mattress. Wilson abandons Hakkai on the verge of orgasm, excited by the possibility of illicit broom closet sex, and Hakkai, irate, becomes a highly paid prostitute until the well-meaning and generous Zelos attempts to rescue him/her. But Hakkai will have none of it, refuses to be redeemed, and opens a high-class brothel in Los Angeles, where Ran is one of his/her regular clients.

    <lj:music>I Feel Fantastic - Jonathan Coulton</lj:music>

Oh my god, I was just at the Jonathan Coulton concert in Seattle, and it was awesome. There was dinner before the concert as well; we had satay of various kinds, and duck, and the best green tea I've ever had ever. And an incredible banana split for dessert, and molten chocolate cake to die for. And that was before the concert even started.

Then there was the opening band, Paul and Storm. Gods, I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard; seriously, look them up, they're amazing. And in their last number, a pirate song, they trained the audience to cry 'Arrrr!' on command and with different emotions (which we did quite well - they kept having us try new ones just to see what we'd do, happy and hopeful and disappointed and even 'like William Shatner'). The audience then continued to do this at appropriate moments all night. It was wonderful.

Then JoCo himself came on, and it just got better. I can't summarize all of it, but I don't want to forget, so I'm just going to jot down highlights that will mean things at least to me.

The lighting guy is *not allowed* to be funnier than the guys on stage. Seriously, dude, not cool. (Except that it totally was.)
The one little girl in the audience who got a twinkie every time a swear word cropped up in one of the songs.
During Creepy Doll, the baby that cried and managed to creep out JoCo.
The blackout with stars at the end of I Feel Fantastic.
JoCo messing up Brookline.
Audience participation in Mr. Fancypants.
Being encouraged to dress as zombies and pirates and have a brawl at our next JoCo concert. (Taser the ninjas.)
You haven't heard Re: Your Brains properly until you've been in the zombie chorus at a live concert.

Also, just for kicks, a conversation with my boyfriend after I got home:

Nathan: Can you plug in my DS for me?
Me: Where's your DS?
N: ...In my coat pocket, in the other room...
Me: ...And where's your charger?
N: ...Uh, I don't know.
Me: ...That would be a 'no', then.

What is lost can never be regained, and the worst part is that it's all my fault.

For what it's worth, I'm sorry for disappearing. I know any promises of my permanent return won't mean anything now, but...I'm done, finally, with getting my life sorted out and finding a new routine after such a dramatic change in lifestyle. I'm only sorry it took so long...but my boyfriend and I seem to have finally worked out our equilibrium, and I finally have time for the things I never stopped loving.

It's perfectly reasonable, and I never expected you to wait, but...it still hurts that I've now lost the best thing I ever found over the internet, through my own lazy stupidity. I know, I should have written, shouldn't have simply fled when the stress of balancing grew too much...nothing I can say could make up for that.

So, I'm back for good, everyone. Expect a new Renegades piece in a few days probably. Love you all, sorry I vanished for so long, I really did need the time to get balanced and back on my feet.

I'm sorry, everyone, for the unintentional hiatus. I have no excuse except laziness for not giving warning, but my time has been taken up lately with several things, most notably school (as the quarter is ending soon) and work (I work at an ice cream shop, and summer is coming. You do the math). Taking up my little free time in between these things and dealing with my and my boyfriend's apartment and living together and that sort of thing has been our new (to us) PS2.

For those who are interested, I don't have Tales of the Abyss, Kingdom Hearts, or KH2 yet. FFXII, however, is awesome and made of win (and also a fair amount of Star Wars, it seems like), and Okami is the best (not really) Zelda game ever made. Seriously, it takes everything Zelda ever did right and uses it blatantly, combined with fixing the things that Zelda fans don't want to admit the games get wrong. And the graphics and music are both like Windwaker only better.

I'll be back with you folks in a week or so once school's stopped being crazy. Love you all, and very sorry, once again, for my disappearance.

First, the quiz meme that's going around:
Mingle2.com: Free Online Dating70% GeekMingle2.com - Free Online Dating

Not as much as my boyfriend, but not bad, either. (Okay, I cheated a little on the Slashdot question, but after all, it only asked what the slogan was, not whether I knew it off the top of my head. I also counted tabs instead of windows for one question, but that's following the spirit, I don't think it's cheating.)

Also, daruki wanted me to post this rant, so here it is:

We’ll start at the obvious jumping-off point: Kranna. Kranna is a difficult pairing to write well, because Anna is essentially an OC. She never showed up in the game, and her personality is never discussed at all, so there’s no canon basis to go on for characterization, other than making her the sort of person to whom Kratos would be attracted. It’s fortunate that a pairing needs no other justification besides being canon, because this one doesn’t really have any. Her being dead years before the game begins doesn’t really help writers much, either. The biggest argument against writing Anna is that because she's undefined, it's really easy to make her into the dreaded Canon-Sue. In spite of these writing difficulties, though, the love they had for each other absolutely must be taken into account when writing for Kratos at any point after her death.

Kranna is a good pairing mostly because it is incontestably canon. In order for a well-written Kratos romance fic to disregard this pairing entirely, it must be either pre-Anna or AU, because otherwise you absolutely must deal with the fact that Kratos loved Anna, and that they had a child together. During the game, Kratos demonstrates intense guilt and regret over her death, and grows angry when Kvar speaks badly of her, even after fourteen years, so it’s clear that his love for her was real.

-

Next, we have Kraine. One of Kraine’s biggest problems is exactly the opposite of Kranna’s: while there’s oodles of interesting characterization possibilities, the canon reflects very little actual interest between the two. They talk, certainly, but there’s no marked interest in one another, and Raine often seems a bit suspicious of Kratos (with good reason). Another barrier to this pairing is Kratos’ betrayal of the party. Raine’s primary task, her ultimate duty, is to protect the children. Kratos, in the Tower, betrayed and tried to kill them. This does not make for good relationship material. In addition, Kratos’ past relationship with Anna, who he doesn’t seem to have properly gotten over, and of whom Lloyd is a constant reminder, would be an issue that must be dealt with. There’s also the matter of Kratos leaving the planet on Derris-Kharlan at the end of the game, so if you want them to have a warm and fuzzy happily-ever-after, you have to bring Kratos back somehow.

Kratos and Raine are the only two adults in the party during the initial Journey of Regeneration, so it might well be expected that they would grow somewhat close during that time simply because of that fact. That situation might or might not translate into romance, but it certainly could. In addition, both of them have a tendency to put up a strong front while hiding their weaknesses away whenever possible. This could be a barrier to a relationship, but it also means that they could understand one another, and possibly even provide sanctuary when the strain of being strong constantly gets to be too much. They may not always agree, but it's very nice to have someone who understands what you're feeling when no one else around you can. Raine in particular, during the Journey, would probably feel more inclined to relax around Kratos than around any of the children, because he knows and can handle what's going on better than they can.

-

Finally, for the slashers, there’s Krauan. Despite evidence and open-ended possibilities, there is no proof whatsoever that Kratos and Yuan’s relationship was ever more than platonic. Friendship, certainly…it’s more than likely that they were as close as brothers at some point. But most of their interactions are distant, with a certain level of rivalry throughout the game. That’s understandable, since they’re on different sides, of course, but that’s a further indication that a relationship would be difficult to maintain between them. It would be just as easy to suppose that they had started out as close as brothers, then slowly grown apart over the long, bitter years spent under Mithos’ rule. As easily as their personalities could support each other, they could also be repulsed by each other's weaknesses, especially Yuan when considering Kratos' submission to Mithos. Furthermore, any intimate relationship they’d formed over those years would have been disrupted or somehow interfered with when Kratos fell in love with Anna; in fact, if such a relationship had existed at the time, there’s a chance he might have stayed away from her for Yuan’s sake, and since he obviously didn't, we are left to wonder. And of course, there’s still the fact that Kratos left the planet at the end of the game, although in this case Yuan may be said to have gone with him; there’s no mention of what happens to Yuan in the end.

However, Kratos and Yuan have known one another for over four thousand years; in that kind of timespan, it’s inevitable that some sort of bond would be created, even if they had started out as enemies, which they certainly didn’t. Furthermore, there’s the fact that they’re the only two people in any world who truly understand what it’s like to have lived for so long under Mithos’ rule. As far as relationship-building, it’s hard to beat that kind of mutual comprehension. They’ve certainly had enough time around each other to form some kind of relationship…at the very least one might easily assume a few drunken encounters during times of stress, or a bit of experimentation just for curiosity’s sake. In a way, it can sometimes be hard to believe that they haven’t been intimate. There’s also the more concrete evidence of the scene in Torent Forest, where fangirls still squeal daily over the sight of Yuan cradling Kratos in his arms. Yuan rushed there to save Kratos, even though he’d apparently spent most of the game trying to kill him, and that speaks to a significant degree of closeness. And their personalities themselves can mesh well; where Yuan can sometimes grow overly emotional when things get out of control, Kratos remains calm, and when Kratos doesn't see a point to fighting, Yuan reminds him of all they have to fight for.

----------

In conclusion: Kranna is canon. Both of the other two are possible and even likely. There are many barriers, but with proper treatment, those barriers can be overcome.

Also, because I felt like adding it, the 'Rants' section of my profile on fanfiction.net:

Kraine and Kranna fans please read!

I would like to make some statements regarding the rather vicious debate between fans of the pairings Kraine and Kranna.
First of all, I don't see why people have to be so nasty about it. Just because you don't share someone's opinion doesn't mean you have to be cruel about it. Respect people's opinions. Play nice. These aren't real people, remember, except for the life we give them by considering them as though they were.
Next, I will state for the record that I am a Kraine fan. Hear me out, purists, before you send angry emails. I like Kratos. I like Raine. I think that, under the right circumstances, they could be an interesting couple. I am not, and never have been, suggesting that Kratos should forget Anna. Clearly, that would be one of the barriers to any relationship they might have. But love is an unpredictable thing, and I believe that, given time (which Raine has plenty of), the past can be put to rest. And anyway, it's fanfiction. I'm willing to be open-minded, to accept multiple variations on the same character. I have seen Kratoses that will never love anyone other than Anna. I have seen Kratoses willing and able to move on and seek happiness in the future. They are equally true to the original.
Kraine fans! I am sick and tired of seeing Kraine fans who hate Anna! Kranna is canon. Deal with it! If you claim to love Kratos, you should respect him enough to have faith in his taste in women. If not that, then at least have some respect for the dead? I dislike character-bashing in general, and Anna-haters really, really get on my nerves. Kratos loved her; this should be enough of a reason to respect her in and of itself. I fully support Kranna at any point in any timeline when Anna is alive. No question there. It's only when she isn't around that other possibilities open up.
Questions? Comments? Ideas? Email me! All comments will be responded to in kind; thoughtful comments with my own thoughts, flames with mockery. I'm pretty good at that, been taking lessons in snark from Yuan. Don't take my word for it, though; go ahead and flame. See how far it gets you. But remember one of the underlying themes of the game: Hatred only begets hatred.

New rant!

Dear Tales of Symphonia pairing-warriors and fanbrats:
What is up with the hate? Why are there pairing wars here, and why the character-bashing? It's bad enough that it happens in other fandoms, but guess what the primary message of our canon is? Tolerance! Statements like "Everyone has the same heart" abound, and the general message is that bad things happen when people hate other people for no good reason. So why do you do this? As I've said before in a forum, how could so many people have completely and utterly missed the point?!

Still trying to love,
A Renegade Fangirl
